Disturbingly, the developers also put in a response to attempting to look up Ashley's skirt: she yells at you and covers up. A good number of the bosses can be beaten in multiple interesting ways, and the deaths you can face at the hands of various foes are gory, brutal, and perfect for a "zombie" game. RE4 has a lot of personality: doing quirky things in weird places tends to get you hilariously killed (those of you who fired a few shots into the lake know what I mean). There's also the merchant, who is, I might add, an illogical douchebag in the vein of most video game merchants.
RE4 can drag on at points in the castle (the castle's standard occupants aren't as fun as the bog standard villagers, if you ask me), and it DOES have some serious wtf moments, such as firearm use among the "zombies." These guys use crossbows, catapaults, and freaking machine guns at some points, but none of the villagers has an old hunting rifle or pistol? Odd, but not really all that important.
